New Product Marketing Online
We recently had a client who wanted to test their new product online. Since this is unchartered territory for most marketers, I wanted to put together several tips to help with marketing any new product online.
First, any new product should be tested, at least to some extent, by using Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising. This involves detailed keyword selection. If this is a totally new concept, service, or product, then keyword associations must play an intricate role.
For example, let's say the product was a new weight loss supplement called SlimZero (I made this name up) with no former marketing or credibility. Obviously, the least bang for the buck would be throwing all of your PPC or text link dollars on the brand name alone.
In this case, you would need to keyword associate to drive traffic. Using other valuable keywords to test the stickiness of your product is essential. Using terms related to "weight loss supplements" or "dieting supplements" will give better results.
Landing page copy and overall site design should definitely rely on "call-to-action" statements and not filler. Attention spans are short online and especially with new or unknown products or services.
Create colorful product or services images and show them in the most professional way possible. If your images look like they were taken with a disposable camera, visitors will leave.
If you're competing with well-known players in your market, put some real time into the web site. Buying a set of $50 web site templates shows. If you really want to get your product off the ground, hire a reputable web designer to give the site help with reputation. In my experience, paying for something done well and right the first time saves a lot of money and time in the long run.
Analyze your PPC and modify according to your traffic. If you don't have the money to spend on fancy analytics tools or do not use Google Analyics, then something like Stats Counter should work well. It shows where users come from, where they go, where they leave, and other vital stats.
Use the tools of the trade - press release syndication, article distribution, banner or targeted text ads on niche sites related to your product or service. Using these cheap ways to drive leads to your web site can be very cost effective is done correctly.
